About the work
2019.6.5

Landor's Cottage, Footnoted is an obsessive analysis of one of Edgar Allan Poe’s last tales that, in 103 footnotes by the artist, touches on the philosophy of landscape design, 19th century painting, Poe’s life and loves, only to come to an unexpected conclusion about the meaning of the story.

The installation consists of a hand-made artist’s book, a desk and stool, wall charts and photographs.

An interactive, multimedia, web-based version of the text and footnotes also exists at http://landor.stephaniecardon.com as a way of widely distributing the written content usually only available through a prolonged interaction in the installation setting.
